Community Programs

While this winter season is likely to look different than years past, we are still looking forward to opportunities to learn and grow together with our program offerings. This season, we’re tackling some of the symptoms of 2020’s , with classes that cultivate creativity, resilience, mindfulness and self-care.

Drawing Basics for Youth

Interested in animation, illustration, or fine art? Drawing is the foundation of all of these practices, and, like exercise, gets easier and more enjoyable through practice. Through a series of projects geared toward young adults, this program will introduce students to materials and techniques, and provide opportunity for improvement in a supportive environment.

Intro to Etsy Workshop for Artists and Crafters

Are you an artist or crafter looking for an online place to sell your work?   Etsy.com is a user friendly e-commerce website specifically geared for the handmade market.  It is a great way to sell your creations and to be found by other shops and galleries that may want to also sell your work. This workshop will tell you how to start your own online ETSY shop, how to attractively showcase your products and how to get your work found by those who are looking for exactly what it is you are creating by effectively using key words to create your online listings. 

Bring along a laptop, photos of your work, and any questions you may have about being an online seller.

Haudenosaunee (Iriquois) Corn Husk Doll Making

Come and share an experience of the Haudenosaunee. In this workshop, you will hear the traditional  Ohén: ton Karihwatéhkwen thanksgiving address, make corn husk dolls, and hear various stories that are a part of this agrarian culture. Please bring an old towel and scissors.

The Gift of Active Hope

In these uncertain times of pandemic and climate change, reality can be painful to face and difficult to process. Introducing key themes and practices from Joanna Macy’s Work That Reconnects we will draw on dialogue, ritual, contemplation and experiences in nature to explore new and ancient ways of seeing to support a deep engagement with the world.  Together we’ll explore ideas and activities enabling us to grow our resilience and find, offer and receive the gift of active hope. No previous experience with Joanna Macey’s work is necessary.

Dates: Mondays November 9, 23, Dec 7, January 11, 25, February 8 and 22

Local Herbs for Cold and Flu Season

Walking through Fillongely Park, herbalist Philippa Joly will assist participants in identifying various medicinal plants beneficial for boosting the immune system and staying strong through cold and flu season. Plant properties and ethical wildcrafting considerations will be discussed (no harvesting is permissible on conservation property or parkland).

Meditating with the Body

Simple, beautiful guided practices to help you access your own deep inner resources and stabilize the nervous system. Breath, guided visualization, simple movement to learn to deepen our grounding on the earth and in our bodies.
