Mondays: Let’s Get Growing
It’s spring! The program is an opportunity for beginners and green thumbs alike to explore the satisfaction of growing flowers, veggies, and edible sprouts from seed. Through hands-on activities and games, we will learn about sciency stuff like seed starting, growing conditions, and talking about different types of gardens. We’ll also be learning some big-picture ideas about how our gardens can help the planet!
We’ll have plenty of outdoor time, so participants should come dressed for the weather and prepared to get dirty! Ultimately, we’ll be working towards growing food for our weekly school lunch program!

Tuesdays: Be Abundantly Wild!

Join Nature-Art-Indigenous Culture Educator Heather Royal Brant on Tuesdays as we observe, learn and enjoy the abundance of gifts that exist in our island’s natural environment and our own backyards. Each week we will explore seasonal wild edibles learning how to “honourably harvest”, practice “giving before we receive” and hear indigenous stories of our plant, animal and sea relatives. We will play games, nature-doodle and much more! We will have Elder Barb Whyte join to share Pentlatch land-based teachings around traditional foods and seasonal activities. The goal of this program is to bring students full circle through experience to see how connected our food and medicine is with the land, forests and waters, this IS our grocery store. How do we learn about it, respect it and keep it sustainable for future generations?  A special gratitude to Donna at The Guest House who will help turn our wild harvests into yummy treats for our lunch program!

We want to take this opportunity to thank our volunteers who continue to share their skills and passion with the kids and who have done a great job adapting to the COVID protocol. They are amazing and we couldn’t offer this quality or number of programs!
