School Support Coordinator

DICES is seeking a motivated individual with experience and enthusiasm for food: meal planning, meal preparation, and service in community. This role is rooted in building relationships, collaborating with many stakeholders and co-facilitating student-centered, locally adapted and health-promoting school food programs.
The School Support Coordinator will work collaboratively with Denman Island Community School Staff to facilitate the current food and garden programs at the school and contribute to the development of other initiatives that support student success.

Main Responsibilities
● Support food procurement and preparation for two school meals weekly; one salad bar and one hot lunch (4-5 hrs/wk)
● Support school and community programs creating healthy snacks weekly
● Coordinate and support garden work including connecting with volunteers, overseeing project work and watering schedule (1-2 hrs/wk)
● Support monthly evening community school events (2-3 hrs/mo)
● Build and maintain community partnerships with food producers, the Parent Advisory Committee, local businesses and others who can support
the aggregation, processing and distribution of local food and healthy meals and snacks to students
● Support the connection and collaboration of food programs with school gardens and other food literacy programming

Communication Expectations
● Ability to work as part of a team with school staff, DICES staff, volunteers and students
● Good communication skills, written and verbal, including demonstrated ability resolve issues and conflicts in a collaborative and respectful
manner
● Ability to meaningfully engage children, youth and caregivers in program setting

Administration
● Responsible for working within the budget as determined by School Administration
● Attendance at Planning Meetings with School and DICES Staff

Eligibility
Applicants must have:
● Clearance from the Criminal Record Review Program to work with vulnerable populations
● Legal eligibility to work in Canada
● Class 5 Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle
● Food Safe Certification (to be completed within one month of start date)

This contract position is for 5 – 10 hours per week from late February 2024 through until June 30, 2024 with a possibility to renew in September 2024 for a 10-month contract.

The wage for this position is $25/hour to start.
